Should San Antonio Bartenders be responsible for drunk patrons?

by RiverCityBlogger on June 30, 2011

The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) is attempting to file charges against three bartenders who work at the Flying Saucer and Oak Hills Tavern for ‘over-serving’ alcohol to Christopher Balderamos, a customer.

Christopher, who left the bar drunk, crashed into SAPD Officer Stephanie Brown’s patrol car.

Christopher died.

He also killed Officer Stephanie Brown in the crash.

God has endowed all of us with FREE WILL.

Yes, even Christopher had FREE WILL.

Christopher had FREE WILL before he lifted the first drink to his mouth, FREE WILL when
he ‘started’ to feel the buzz, and yes, FREE WILL as the last drink went down Christopher’s gullet.

He died, and sadly caused the death of a police officer.

Unfortunately, this is a casualty of Christopher’s actions, and there is no one that should have
to pay for Christopher’s gross decision, he is dead.

Enforcement must be fierce and probation should be part of any DUI conviction,
if the offender lives.

In addition, I say that if you drive drunk, are pulled over and arrested, the first time, your driver license should be suspended for three to six months with a monetary fine.

‘Well, how will they get to work and run errands?’ you might ask.

I say, that is their problem, bust since you are asking, I would say, VIA-VIA or gather friends
that have time to give the DUI offender a ride.

Get caught a second time driving drunk, your driver license is suspended for 1 year and a
much heavier monetary fine.

Do it again, and your driver license is revoked, period, and make these suspensions, arrests
and fines very public to make it clear to all that choose to drive drunk, they shall surely pay
a very high price.

If the DUI offender kills someone, because of his or her decision to drive drunk,
as Christopher did, and the offender survives, prison time should be in order.

For how long?

I would say until such time that, the victim is revived.

There will be casualties along the way, but it is time individuals are held accountable for their own decisions.

As for Officer Stephanie Brown, God bless her soul.
